Call me "so two seasons ago" but I recently re-discovered an old skirt while spring cleaning, and remembered a spread from Teen Vogue's March 2009 issue. Since I had a long weekend I decided to recreate it my way.

Easter Weekend

My Easter holiday was good. Not to mention the AMAZING weather we've been having. Unfortunately that lucky streak ends today, its raining and it gives off a very blah feeling. Not the type of rain that makes you feel like putting on your rainboots and jumping in puddles singing "Singing in the Rain" à la Gene Kelly.

Therefore, I took the advantage of the amazing weather and played shutterbug for the day.

This one is one of my personal favorites.

Accidental shot, it was supposed to be focused on the bud closest, but turned out good anyway.
Hope you've all had a great weekend.

Book Review

Title: Gravity Journal

Author: Gail Sidonie Sobat

Publisher: Geat Plains Publications 2008

Awards/Nominations: White Pine Awards; Official Selection

Summary: 16 year-old Anise suffers from anorexia. Being hospitalized for the third time, she turns to her journal. Her journal-the place where she can make scathing ovservations about her family, other people, the world and life in general. Will Anise decide whether to live or die?

Comments: VERY intriguing book! Lately I've been reading about troubled girls that write in their journals. Most have been enjoyable but this book stuck out at me. I'ts full of angst & bitterness, but at times there is a lighter side of Anise. The whole time while I was reading I couldn't get over the fact that Anise thought she was fat. At the begining , she weighed a feeble 44kg ( around 88-90 lbs) at 5'9!!! I found this frightening that a girl just like Anise could be suffering this atrocious disease.

Rating: 5/5 stars, perfect for anyone who needs a bit of a downer or a touch of reality.

Genre: fictional journal/ real life

Tree Planting

Day 3
Our group was at Rattrai Marsh by Lake Ontario preventing erosion. Which is basically when water from a water shed gains water (rain) it travels at a greater speed, which makes the sides of the river cave in. Therefore the rain water scrapes away at the sides of the stream or river exposing tree roots ect. At the marsh unfortunately, the erosion was getting so bad that the tree roots started to stick our of the river banks. Instead of using some man made material we used good old natural resources. Using bungles of twigs & sticks. We filled in the caves and then boarded them up with logs of old trees. We also destroyed some invasive reeds!
All in a good, planet-saving day.

Day 4
Just a normal tree planting day. Our guide/ CYC leader, Michelle said that by the end of the 5 day week we'll probably end up planting around 300 trees! Yeah us!

Day 5
The final day of this experience was the cherry on top of the sundae. Electrofishing is when an electrical current is put into a body of water with fish in it. The electrical current doesn't harm the fish, it just shocks their bladders (it helps with their buoyancy), which makes them float up to the surface of the water. Now you must catch the fish and put them in a bucket of water. The purpose of this is to see what kind of fish there are in this specific body of water. One fish in particular tells you if its a clean body of water. If you ever find a fish called a Rainbow Darter. (Look at picture) It's very sensitive to pollution. Therefore you know if the water is polluted or not. Thankfully, we found a handful of Rainbow Darters. Not to mention that yours truly caught a few. Then the fish (not only Rainbow Darters, but others as well) are sorted, weighed and measured and put back into the water. Keep in mind; you may not see the fish I have mentioned in this entry. Therefore do not get upset when you cannot find these types of fish. You may live on another continent! And to end the day, we visited the bad-lands near Terra Cotta ( Bad-lands; are hills of gravel and dry clay where trees used to stand. But when deforesting the trees it was either done too fast or the soil underneath was not up to such circumstances. Therefore; the land turned into hills.) Overall this experience was fantastic and I have learned so much. I cannot wait until next year!

Plant a Tree, Save the Earth

So earlier on , I said I would blog about my tree-planting experiences. Here we go.
DAY ONE...
was basically orientation. We played some games. Found way points with hand-held GPS' and were threatend by the boys that we would get tackled in capture the flag. Because we volunteered to use the darn GPS. While they had to find invasive plants. Bums. Otherwise the first day was pretty fun. :)
We got goodie bags :)) that included; Garden information booklets, flower seeds; black eyed Susan and purple cone flower. Water efficient appliances booklet, water efficient shower-head, re-usable water bottle, 2 energy efficient light bulbs, rain measure, ruler made of six polystyrene cups, a pencil made from a pair of jeans (very cool) and a re-usable tote bag.
DAY TWO...
we planted trees. YEAYYY. Of course the boys (seriously, they are most definitely NOT men) whined about planting trees. They are just here to get their community service done. Losers. Some of the trees I planted today were; Eastern White Cedar, American Elder, American Sycamore/ Buttonwood. As well as some Pines and Conifers.
Where may you ask am I planting trees? well today we were just 10 km away from Orangeville, Ontario. Yesterday I was in Terra Cotta. At a conservation reserve.
The organization that put this together is called CVC ( Credit Valley Conservation ) but especially for us teens, they made CYC ( Conservation Youth Corps) so its just students planting trees, not some old, creepy geezers.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE TREE PLANTING, TIPS, AND WHAT IS A WATERSHED.

Random Post & Up and Coming Posts

Long time no post, any who, this week I'll be keeping an online journal about my tree planting experience. I'M SO FREAKING' EXCITED :))) !!! So I will be keeping you up on your favourite earth-saving hippie :). My best friend also started a blog, so when she remembers what it's called I'll fill you in. WE MADE A BUCKET LIST! I will also post that during this week, or the next...
On Friday, my sister and mother and I went strawberry/raspberry picking. Magda, the newest edition to our family is just over a month old, and my mother and I took turns taking care of her and carrying her in this harness like contraption. It's very confusing to put on -_-". During my shift, many people were giving me the stink eye. That happens a lot!! Even in church! For Pete's sake! I AM NOT A TEEN MOTHER :( it disappoints me that people come to those conclusions. Aren't I over reacting? Non, mes cheries! while my mother and I were in the doctor's office waiting for the doctor( it was Maggie's first doc appointment) a lady came up to me and asked if she was my daughter. So no, I am certainly not over reacting. So that is my story for this week, kind of. Just wait until I start talking about tree planting :) super fun !!
Up & Coming Posts: Many book reviews. Body of Lies movie review, and my opinion on the winner in "Canada's Next Top Model". The season finale is this week !! Many exciting events this week. Au revoir mes amies!!♥

L.A Candy -First Book Review

BOOK: L.A Candy
AUTHOR: Lauren Conrad
PUBLISHER: Harper Collins Publishers
SUMMARY: When nineteen-year-old Jane Roberts moves to L.A with best friend Scarlett Harp, she is cast in a new reality show called L.A Candy. (Hence the book title) She discovers the fame & fortune of being a reality TV star. Her new life comes with the whole package; glamorous clubs, beautiful people,(with ugly dark sides) a promotion at her new job, and fabulous clothes. With the exception of a camera crew following her around. Soon enough, Jane notices that this is not what she thought what she signed up for!
VERDICT: What a suspenseful novel!!! Absolutely fabulous. Kudos to L.C ♥. This book proves that Lauren isn't just a reality TV star. The whole time I was trying to picture what character from the Hills inspired the characters in this book. Tough call... you'll have to find out yourself. Highly recommend to fans of reality shows. (DUH!) As well, to fans of cliffhanger endings, this is for you! THERE BETTER BE A SEQUEL!! and a final congrats to Ms. Conrad.
RATING: 3.5/5 stars (Not a big fan of cliffhangers, unfortunately)

Happy Earth Day!!

A special blog entry for one of my favourite days! EARTH DAY. This is the day we take extra special time to clean up our earth. But then again we should take care of our earth each and everyday. It has also come to my attention that I'm turning into a hippy. But not like the ones that get high and don't shower, but the earth saving, organic kind. For example; I have this shirt that says : More trees please. Which I have worn today on account of Earth day.
I'm going so far that I now walk almost everywhere, and today I'm going to buy organic make-up.
And now some tips on how to save our earth.
  • Use a re-usable water bottle.
  • Buy organic; food, clothes etc. If organic is just too much of a hassle and cost then I recommend buying food that is locally grown.
  • Carpool, if you must use the car. Aswell as walk or bike. Not only do you save money on gas and save the earth but you get exercise.
  • Use recycling bins!!!
  • Take shorter showers; two or three songs on the radio will do or take what I call sailor showers. When lathering hair or body turn off the water, then turn it back on when rinsing. Same thing with brushing your teeth.
  • PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE!!!! when your not using it, TURN IT OFF. That includes, lights, computer, radio, even the computer screen!!

If you want more earth saving tips go to www.edf.org or check out Teen Vogue's May issue. Major kudos to TV's eco-chic issue. :))) www.teenvogue.com

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Movie Review-Bridget Jones' Diary

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Director: Sharon Maguire
Written by: Helen Fielding (novel and screenplay)
Plot: Bridget Jones is a single woman, age 32 and living in Britan. At the start of a new year, Bridget buys a diary and decides to be completely honest. "Resolution #1: uggg - will obviously lose 20 lbs. #2: always put last night's panties in the laundry basket. Equally important: will find nice sensible boyfriend and stop forming romantic attachments to any of the following: alcoholics, workoholics, sexaholics, commitment-phobics, peeping toms, megalomaniacs, emotional fuckwits, or perverts. Will especially stop fantasizing about a particular person who embodies all these things." Direct quote from the movie.
Comments: I absolutely loved this movie!! I found it very hillarious and griping, but not in the intelectual way or the horror film kind. Although I can't relate to Bridget very much, there was always this piting kind of sympathy for her. She can't hold down a man; is cheated on by dazzling Daniel Cleaver and disliked by the gorgeous Mark Darcy. But in the end Bridget ends up with one of them, I will not tell, you watch the movie for yourself...
Rating/Favourite Quotes: I give this movie a rating of 4/5
-Perpetua: Anyone going to introduce me? Bridget: [to herself] Ah. Introduce people with thoughtful details. Perpetua, this is Mark Darcy. Mark is a prematurely middle-aged prick with a cruel raced ex-wife. Perpetua is a fat-ass old bag who spends her time bossing me around. [to herself] Bridget: Maybe not. Perpetua: Anyone going to introduce me? Bridget: Ah, Perpetua. This is Mark Darcy. Mark is a top barrister. Comes from Grafton Underwood. Perpetua is one of my work colleagues.
*aaannd one of my all time favourties, makes me laugh every time*
-Daniel Cleaver: There once was a young woman from Ealing. Who had a particular feeling. She lay on her back, and opened her crack, and pissed all over the ceiling.
BWAHAHAHHAHAHHA, couldn't help myself, cracked up while just writing it.
-Highly recommend this movie to anyone who needs a break from their own depressing life style, you will find this amusing and highly comic.
